Groundwater Model

INVISIBLE FIRE: Visualizing Contaminated Groundwater near Fernald Uranium Plant, Ohio.

Interdisciplinary artist Eve Andrée Laramée has launched a new project, INVISIBLE FIRE, visualizing water in Ohio contaminate with radioactive isotopes of plutonium, uranium, radium, thorium and technitium.

Eve Andrée Laramée Launches Project on Ohio Water Contaminated by Radioactive toxins

Eve Andrée Laramée launches new interdisciplinary art project addressing Ohio Water Quality issues, entitled INVISIBLE FIRE. Laramée, who has devoted thirty years working on activist art projects addressing Cold War environmental legacy sites contaminated with radioactive toxins has initiated a series of new projects addressing Ohio Atomic Legacy Sites. The SYNAPSE CENTER at Akron University has sponsored the beginning stages of this work.

Using data from the Department of Energy Geospatial Environmental Mapping System, Laramee worked with computer scientists, Kalyan Thokala and Yincai Xiao to create images of contaminated groundwater based on well water samples from the Fernald Site. The project will develop to include water sample data from surrounding agricultural land. Laramee hopes to collaborate with a GIS specialist and a geologist/hydrologist to include underground aquifer maps into the simulated toxin plume.
